How did you enjoy that extra hour of sleep?

I hope you're surviving the darker evenings and enjoying some winter comforts!

As always, here is your round up of the key stories from across the FMCG industry...

Fuel concerns are affecting how we shop ⛽️

In the 12 weeks leading up to 3 October 2021, take-home grocery sales fell by 1.2% year-on-year. We have been making fewer trips to the supermarket in an attempt to save fuel.

The average household made only 15.5 store visits in September, the lowest monthly figure since February.

This also meant an uptake in online grocery shopping, which accounted for 12.4% of all grocery sales.

Black Friday is a time to shine! 🛍

Despite this, Black Friday in 2020 saw google shopping searches grow 31%.

56% of people plan to stick online for the best deals, so it's important make sure your activity is visible online during this period.

The other key trending topic the last few years has been Buy Nothing Day. Many brands, campaigners and consumers are speaking out against the consumerism and environmental impact of 'buying things you don't need'.

The countdown to Christmas 🎅🏼

Now Halloween is out the way and the clocks have gone back, the official countdown to Christmas has started!

Tesco have already been encouraging us to "Stock up early" and as Christmas takes over the full seasonal aisle, even more of us will!

Take a look at Isabel Lydall's latest report for an idea of What Christmas 2021 will be like.

The festive period is full of food and drink occasions, with friends and family getting together and many of us enjoying multiple Christmas dinners. After last year's Christmas in lockdown, there will be even more reasons to get together.

As we head towards the end of the year, the challenge will be to continue balancing the short-term and long-term needs of your business.

If there is anything I can do to help - get in touch!

Continue to stay safe, well and positive.
